About Muslim Law Students (UK) Muslimlawstudents.co.uk was set up by a British Muslim law student, studying for an LLM in International Islamic Law, and is now fast becoming a National Students Association dedicated to Muslim Law Students. Disappointed by the lack of awareness of Islamic Law in domestic and International law amongst a significant proportion of Academics in Law faculties, but moreso amongst Muslim law students themselves, he initiated Muslimlawstudents.co.uk as a portal dedicated specifically to educating Muslim law students of the principles and methodology of traditional Islamic Law in an attempt to subsequently raise awareness of legal principles and problems that may arise for Muslims in contemporary Britain. The intention of Muslimlawstudents.co.uk is to bring together leading traditional Scholars (ulema) from around the world and from the most prestigious institutes of Academia to lecture and teach law students traditional Islamic Law principles and to give lectures on issues that are relevant to Muslim law students in Britain, as well as to non-muslim law students who are interested in the pluralism of the legal profession in Britain. The Scholars that are invited are not discriminated upon due to their religious and doctrinal differences - rather, difference of opinion and healthy dialogue is promoted by Muslimlawstudents.co.uk and thus the fora organised by us are not a ground for promoting the views or opinions of any particular legal school of thought (madh-hab) in Islam. Additionally, we aim to invite Secular legal Scholars as well as other non-Muslim Legal Scholars to add their opinions to the debates in order to contribute to the much needed discourse on how the English legal system is to evolve. | Membership of Muslim Law Students UK
It is important to stress that 'Muslimlawstudents.co.uk' is not discriminatory in its membership policy. Membership is specifically for students with an interest in Islamic Law, but is open to everyone regardless of race, religion, gender, provided they are resident in the United Kingdom and a Student (at least undergraduate level, e.g. BA, BSc, LLB, MA, MSc, LLM, or PhD., CPE, LPC, BVC, trainee or pupillage.)
The Membership process is not yet up and running however this should be completed sometime around August 2007. Please visit us again around that time for further information on how to apply for membership. We are well aware of the financial difficulties during student life and thus we do not envisage the introduction of any memebrship fees, however, nominal administration fees may be required for attendance at Lectures and fora. | |
